CITY OF CRESCENT CITY, FLORIDA

PUBLIC NOTICE

REGARDING HURRICANE MILTON

City Hall will be closed Wednesday, 10/9 and Thurswday 10/10

Governor DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency specific to Hurricane Milton. The Crescent City Commission has declared a local State of Emergency for the community. The National Weather Service has issued a Hurricane Warning for this region. The anticipated arrival time of the storm in Putnam County is sometime between 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th and

2 a.m. on Thursday, October 10th.

Heavy rains are expected to begin Tuesday evening and remain through the exit of the event on Friday morning. Strong hurricane level wind and storm surge warnings are in effect with 3’ to 5’ level flooding potential along the St. John’s River basin. 

Putnam County Government has activated the Emergency Operations Center. The public can gather more information on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 8th by contacting the center at: (386) 329-1504.

For this major storm event:

  • An emergency shelter with available nursing staff will be open at Middleton Burney school beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8
  • An animal shelter will be open at Ochwilla Elementary School.
  • Sandbags are available at 145 W. Washington Street – Hawthorne or Jonas Road – Crescent City. Self-serve, please bring your shovel.
  • Garbage and recycle collection schedule to be determined.
  • After the storm event, do not pick up debris without first looking for downed power lines.
  • If possible, please avoid driving during the storm. There are roadways that will not be undrivable. And maintenance personnel in the field restoring utilities.
  • Please secure objects that could fly during the storm event including yard signs.
  • Public Safety personnel will not operate emergency vehicles until it is safe to drive.
